Notice how the weather’s becoming unpredictable lately? Let’s face it: climate change is real and it’s happening- hotter summer seasons every year, unannounced rain falls, longer El Niño or periods of drought.

Skin Care for the Worsening El Nino

Just end of last year, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that the country will be experiencing a long period of El Niño. Today, PAGASA is reporting that the phenomenon has not only extended but has also intensified. The public is being warned to prepare for severe heat and powerful storms.

With regards to skin care, intense heat and sudden changes in weather bring about a lot of ailments, starting with the very common dry skin.

Xerosis

Xerosis is a condition when dry skin hits the extreme mark. This means the appearance of cracks with noticeable sensations of pain and stinging.

See, as elementary skin care would tell you, skin is soft and supple when it is nourished and well-moisturized. Too much heat will strip off moisture or water content from the outermost layer of the epidermis, leaving it with a rough and cracked appearance.

Xerosis or dry skin may not really affect your health or last long, but the stinging pain and the itchiness can be distracting and limiting. Why endure when you can do something about it, right?

So, while we attend and participate in efforts that would delay, if not stop, the ongoing El Niño and climate change, let’s also take these extra skin care steps to look after ourselves.

Skin Care for Summer and the Worsening El Niño

1. Limit Exposure to the Sun

Summer skin care will always include avoiding too much exposure to the sun. The sun and its UV rays are strongest between 10AM and 4PM, so try to schedule your outdoor activities before these hours of the day.

2. Sun Protection

Don’t worry that your umbrella or hat won’t fit into your day’s get up. Keep in mind that sun protection will always be ‘in’ during the hot days of summer.

3. Simplified Skin Care Routine

Summer skin care is about simplifying your beauty routine so that the skin can breathe and even collect moisture from the hot season’s humid atmosphere.

4. Keep Your Skin Hydrated

Makes perfect sense that to combat, treat or prevent dry skin, you need to maintain and seal in your skin’s moisture. Using the right types of products should help you.

Moringa-O2 Herbal Moisturizing Lotion rejuvenates and protects the skin with the naturally nourishing and highly moisturizing benefits of moringa (malunggay), olive oil and omega (from sunflower oil).
